  • Imago/Imaginis exhibit presentation for the Consular Corps of Greater Miami. Event sponsored by the Office of the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, the Miami-Dade Sister Cities Program, and the East Little Havana Community Development Corporation, Casa Grande, Miami, FL, November 10, 2000.
  • Unveiling of the Our Community’s Mural for the Miami-Dade Human Services Coalition, Continental Bank, Little Havana, November 8, 2000.
  • Children’s Friendship Project for Northern Ireland mural sponsored by the U.S. Department of State: Miami artist Xavier Cortada will travel to Northern Ireland to create a collage-mural to capturing the lessons learned by the 132 youth who visited America during Summer 2000 to participate in the Children’s Friendship Project for Northern Ireland. This mural will be completed and dedicated during the group’s reunion in Northern Ireland on October 21st, 2000 and presented to the Minister of Culture.
  • Poster Unveiling of the “Listen to the Children of the Green Island” mural at the Fulbright Center on the United Nations Peace Keeping Force Buffer Zone (the Green Line), Nicosia, Cyprus on October 23-29, 2000. (The project, mural and poster is sponosored by the US Embassy in Nicosia and involved the participation of Greek and Turkish Cypriot hearing impaired children during June 2000).
  • University of Miami Hispanic Heritage Month: Slideshow presentation of murals and paintings by Xavier Cortada. Cuban-American artist and UM alum (B.A. ’86, M.P.A. ’91, J.D. ’91) Xavier Cortada will share the lessons learned in using his art to build community across four continents. His slide show presentation will also include murals and paintings addressing cultural identity and heritage. University of Miami Pearson Residence Halls Monday, October 30, 2000– 4 p.m.
  • Making a Difference Mural, an internet-supported collaborative mural created with youth from every US Congressional District during the MADD 2000 National Youth Summit in Washington, DC, September 29th – October 3rd, 2000. The mural will be unveiled on the steps of the US Capitol on Oct 3rd, 2000 at 10 a.m.
  • Creation of Children’s Mural for the American Cancer Society’s Families R.O.C.K. Weekend (Reaching Out to Cancer Kids), a weekend of learning, sharing and fun at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Lake Buena Vista (Orlando), Florida on September 15-17, 2000.
  • Group Show: City Link Best of Artist exhibit at ArtServe Gallery, 1350 E. Sunrise Boulevard, Ft, Lauderdale, FL. Opening reception on evening of Saturday, September 2, 2000.   • Creation of the PATH Millennium Mural using messages written by residents and staff of all of Miami-Dade County’s Public Housing sites. PATH, or Public Art Transforming Housing, is a project co-sponsored by Miami-Dade Art in Public Places, Miami-Dade Housing Department, and the Miami-Dade Police Department. August 2000.

  • NACo HomeCreation of America’s Millennium Canvas: Counties, Corporations, and Communities Working Together mural for the National Association of Counties (NACo) National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 15-18, 2000.
  • Presentation of the “In rememberance of stories untold and the healing yet to come” mural at the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s Ribbon Cutting and Inauguration Ceremony, Harrisburg, PA, July 20, 2000.
  • Indiana Teen Institute–creation of “Impact”, a pro-social collaborative mural with over 100 high school students from across the State of Indiana attending the Summer Institute in Vincennes, Indiana, July 22-26, 2000.
  • Historical Museum of Southern Florida: Opening of Master-Peace 2000 exhibit and reception to honor art teachers and organizational collaborators, 101 West Flagler Street, Miami, FL. Saturday, June 17 , 2000, 2 to 5 p.m. The exhibit will run through July 16th, 2000.
  • Creation of “Healthy Women, Healthy World” Collaborative Mural for Global Health Council’s 27th Annual Conference: A Century of Health for the Children of 2000, Washington, DC, June 13-16, 2000.
  • Our Community’s Mural: Building Bridges to Build Community, Creation of collaborative mural with 400 community leaders and activists during the Human Services Coalition of Dade County Annual Celebration in the Caleb Center, Miami, on June 12, 2000, 4:00- 6:30 p.m.
  • Creation of “Listen to the Children of the Green Island,” a collaborative mural (60″ x 144″) created on the Green Line (the UN Peace Keeping Mission Buffer Zone separating the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities) with hearing-impaired Cypriot youth from both sides in an International Earth Day project sponsored by the United States Embassy in Cyprus, June 2 to 11, 2000.

  • Creation of Mural for the Center for Disease Control’s Center for Injury and Violence Prevention National Sexual Violence Prevention Conference on May 16-19, 2000 in Dallas, TX.
  • Master-Peace 2000: Dedication ceremonies for the murals created during Spring 2000 in five Miami-Dade County Public Schools– May 22 through June 2, 2000.
  • Creation of AIDS awareness movable mural with assistance from youth attending Wilson High School in Washington, DC on April 27 through May 1, 2000. The USAID-sponsored mural will reproduced as posters for distribution during the XIII World AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa in July 2000.
  • Begining of WebStudio sessions for Master-Peace 2000’s Spring projects in five Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The murals will be completed by May 12, 2000. and unveiled at dedication ceremonies in their respective schools between May 22 and June 2, 2000.

  • Creation of Initiative Mural with the 50 Governors’ spouses, Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free, National Conference. This conference is sponsored by National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the National Institute of Health’s Offices of Research on Women’s Health and Research on Minority Health, and will bring together Governors’ spouses, their staff, State Alcohol Directors, and experts in the field of prevention of alcohol use by children.   • Great SealMillennium International Volunteer Award presentation to Xavier Cortada by U.S. Department of State and USA Today on March 1, 2000 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. A panel of representatives from the international education and cultural exhange community selected 30 winners, including President Jimmy Carter and Cortada, who receives the award in recognition for his collaborative art projects on four continents during the past decade.
  • Master-Peace 2000: Implementation of the second half of the school-based art project exploring the lessons learned by humanity during the part millennium. The Internet-centered collaborative art project is co-sponsored by Miami-Dade Art in Public Places; Miami-Dade Public School’s Division of Life Skills and Regis House. This semester’s five schools are: Booker T. Washington High School, Carver Middle School, Paul Bell Middle School ,Ruben Dario Middle School, and Shenandoah Middle School. Miami, FL.
  • Florida International Volunteer Corps 1999 Outstanding Achievement Award presentation to Xavier Cortada by FAVA/CA during Florida International Day Activities, February 23, 2000, Tallahassee, Florida.
  • Jubilee Day dedicated to Artists The Vatican, Vatican City: Miami artist Xavier Cortada will travel to the Vatican to participate in the Jubilee Day for Artists on February 17 and 18th, 2000. Cortada will be one of only 600 artists and cultural figures invited by the Vatican from every country in the world to reflect on this Jubilee Year.
  • “Art of Inclusion: A Children’s Collage.” Creation of a collaborative mural that allows children with normal developmental abilities to work together with their peers who have varying disabilities such as hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and genetic disorders. The University of Miami Mailman Center/Debbie School children and their families will join staff in this effort co-sponsored by the St. Stephen’s Art Festival and the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council. The project begins February 2000 at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Complex, Miami, FL.
  • Closing reception for “In the Capitol” — Xavier Cortada’s solo exhibit in Florida State Cabinet meeting room. The exhibit, held from November 26, 1999 through February 4, 2000 is part of the State’s Division of Cultural Affairs Capitol Complex exhibit program, Tallahassee, FL.
  • “El arte como agente de prevencion”–an educational art exhibit and Spanish-language presentation on the use of art as a tool for drug and violence prevention.
